A Little Bit About What We Do

Our venue, based at the heart of a large working organic Dairy and Poultry farm, is situated between Honiton and Cullompton in East Devon.

  • Superb conference, training and meeting venue
  • Flexible, modern rooms for all types of events
  • Unique, purpose built facilities
  • Accessible location with easy access from the M5 and A303

The bulk of our work is based around on-farm training for vets and farmers who need the unique facility we offer of classroom, laboratory, post-mortem all together alongside a large working Organic Dairy and Layer Farm. We organise some courses ourselves but also host a wide variety of other courses and events in conjunction with colleges, training providers and local vets. We offer a great opportunity to study theory in the classroom alongside practical farm sessions or post-mortem work. We also provide accommodation on site for longer courses.

Our bespoke on-farm facilities lend themselves to agricultural training, yet we are also the perfect venue for any type of small to medium sized event. A generous classroom, break-out rooms, free WiFi, a complete AV setup, and all the accoutrements you could possibly need for your function. Plenty of parking, and none of the joys of travel into Exeter or Taunton.

Please take a look at our diary where all our forthcoming courses are listed. If you are interested in using our venue to host your event, please contact Lucy Trevelyan.

Our History

Colliton Barton Training Centre started as a specialised teaching facility hosting high quality courses to people working in the agricultural community and its allied industries in the South West.

For some time we as farmers had recognised a shortfall within agriculture for opportunities for formal and effective training and further career development. As firm believers in the value of decent education, we set about turning our vision into reality and the Colliton Barton Training Centre was developed.

The centre provides courses for:

  • Those working in the dairy and poultry industries
  • 6th-form students considering a career in veterinary medicine
  • Smallholders
  • Undergraduate veterinary students requiring practical experience prior to qualification
  • Newly-qualified cattle & poultry vets
  • Vets and others seeking Continuous Professional Development.

Our vision was that the facilities that we have on the farm could be used to provide a unique educational resource, managed in an effective and professional way. All the courses could take place in the classroom and on the farm so they could be practical and highly interactive. This approach helped raise the skills of those working in farming in the South West, thereby filling a clear educational gap, and seek to meet an ever-increasing demand for formalised training from customers demanding evermore confidence in the food they eat.
